2014 Women's Outdoor Track Performers of the Week

Christine Ajinjeru - Grinnell College
Senior - Kampala, Uganda
Ajinjeru, a qualifier for the NCAA Division III National Indoor Championships, picked up where she left off with a strong effort at the Emory University Invitational. She emerged from a 45-runner field to win the 400-meter dash in 57.50, a time that ranks third in the nation currently. She also placed 11th of 52 runners in the 100. Her time of 13.09 ranks eighth in Pioneer history.

Madison Acree - Cornell College
Junior - Shawnee, Kan.
Acree won three throwing events to lead the Rams to a runner-up team finish at Saturday’s Knox Open. The Ram junior picked up titles in the shot put (40-10.50), discus (114-9) and hammer throw (146-6) in her 2014 outdoor debut. Cornell won nine total events and scored 189 points. Acree’s performance in the shot put ranks 12th in the nation while her hammer throw ranks 29th.

Ofuma Eze-Echesi - Illinois College
Senior - Lagos, Nigeria
Eze-Echesi won an event and set an Illinois College outdoor record in another on Saturday at the Greenville College Select Meet. Eze-Echesi won the 200-meter dash (25.22) and set a school record in the 400-meter dash (58.42), while finishing second. Eze-Echesi holds the best 200-meter dash time, and the second-best 400-meter dash time, in the Midwest Conference this season. Her efforts on Saturday helped the Lady Blues finish sixth in a 10-team field.

Raven Robinson - Monmouth College
Senior - Peoria, Ill.
Robinson was a perfect 3-for-3 in her events last weekend with efforts that ranked in the nation’s top 10 as Monmouth took first in the team standings at the Ashford Invitational. The senior won the discus with a personal-best throw of 144’1” which ranks her third in the nation. She then heaved the sixth-best throw in the nation to win the shot put with a mark of 45’4-1/2”. Her third win of the day came in the hammer throw with a 162’9” effort to place her seventh nationally.

Felicia Carlson - Beloit College
Senior - Beloit, Wis.
Carlson broke her own school records in winning both the 100m and 200m at the Benedictine University Eagle Invite on Saturday. She ran an MWC-best :12.01 in the 100m and an MWC-best :24.64 in the 200m. Her time in the 100m currently is second in the nation while her 200m time is fifth.

Lindsey Thomas - Carroll University
Junior - Appleton, Wis.
Lindsey Thomas had a dominating individual performance at the Wisconsin Lutheran College Invitational, leading the Carroll University women’s track and field team to a runner-up finish behind St. Norbert College. Thomas finished in the top-two of three throwing events. She won the discus event and finished second in the shot put and weight throw. Thomas recorded a distance of 142’ 5” in the discus to set a new school record and improve her national ranking to eighth.

Ofuma Eze-Echesi - Illinois College
Senior - Lagos, Nigeria
Eze-Echesi won a pair of events and set an Illinois College outdoor record on Friday at the Rose-Hulman Twilight Meet in Terre Haute, Indiana. Eze-Echesi won both the 200-meter dash (25.25) and 400-meter dash (57.65), and set an IC record in the 400-meter dash. She currently holds the second-best mark in the Midwest Conference in the 200-meter dash, and the third-best time in the 400-meter dash.

Nicole Vanderlin - St. Norbert College
Sophomore - Vulcan, Mich.
Vanderlin won the high jump title for the third week in a row clearing a height of 5-5 at the SNC Twilight meet. She currently has the 15th highest jump in the country and the best mark in the MWC rankings.

Sarah Burnell - Grinnell College
Senior - Grinnell, Iowa
Burnell set one school record and nearly another at the Kip Janvrin Open on Friday. She was part of the runner-up 4x400-meter relay team that clocked 3:56.27, crushing the previous Pioneer best of 3:59.22 established in 2012. Burnell also went 2:12.64 in the 800, just missing her own school record by .18 of a second. Her time ranks eighth nationally and is nearly 5-1/2 seconds ahead of the next-best time in the MWC. The 4x400 unit’s time ranks 29th nationally.

Brittney Burgess - Illinois College
Senior - Jacksonville, Ill.
Burgess won the javelin throw at a pair of meets over the last week to continue her streak of winning the javelin at every meet she has entered this season. Burgess recorded a season-best toss of 140 feet, 7 inches, to win the Illinois College Mid-Week on Tuesday, before turning in a toss of 132 feet, 10 inches to win the event at the True Blue Open on Saturday. Burgess holds the best mark in the Midwest Conference in the event, while ranking eighth nationally.

Senior - Lagos, Nigeria
Eze-Echesi set another school record over the weekend at the Monmouth College Outdoor, clocking a time of 56.47 seconds in the 400-meter dash to break her own school record, while finishing third in the event. She also won the 200-meter dash, in a time of 24.80 seconds. Eze-Echesi holds the Midwest Conference’s second-best times in the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes.

Jenna Breaker - Ripon College
Junior - Tigerton, Wis.
Breaker finished second in the high jump at Saturday’s Lawrence Invitational with a jump of 5-05.25. That mark is good for 19th in Division-III.
