Waukesha, Wis. - Following one of its most successful seasons in program history, Carroll University head football coach Mark Krzykowski has been named Wisconsin Private College Coach of the Year by the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association (WFCA). The WFCA also announced that senior running back Lamont Williams was named Wisconsin Private College Player of the Year.
The Pioneers opened the 2014 campaign with seven-consecutive wins and finished the season with a record of 8-2, including a 3-1 mark in the Midwest Conference's north division. In the newly formed MWC divisional format, Carroll participated in the league's end-of-the-season third-place game.
"I am very grateful to my colleagues for this honor. The award is the result of hard work and dedication to the Pioneer football program by both the coaching staff and our student-athletes," said Krzykowski. "We have established the Carroll football program as a team that can be highly competitive both inside and out of league play. I believe we have the infrastructure to continue our rise to an MWC Championship."
Carroll was dominant in the opening seven games, outscoring is opponents 281-74, which included a 76-7 victory over Lawrence University on October 18.
Following their 32-27 win over Monmouth College on September 27 to improve to 4-0, the Pioneers began to garner national recognition and were receiving votes for the D3football.com national top-25 poll. Three weeks later, after trouncing Ripon College 48-14, Carroll cracked the top-25 at the No. 24 spot.
Krzykowski, the 29th head coach in the 118-year history of the Pioneer football program, has posted a four-year overall record of 29-11, including a 21-10 mark in Midwest Conference play. Carroll has won eight games in a season five times in its 118-year history, with two of the 8-win seasons coming during Krzykowski's tenure.
Williams capped off a spectacular three-year career with an outstanding senior campaign. He was named first-team All-Midwest Conference north division as both a running back and return specialist. The Philadelphia, Pa. native spearheaded a dominant rushing attack and amassed 1,261 yards and 21 rushing touchdowns.
"I am very happy for Lamont. He has meant a lot to our program over the past three years and this is an honor he truly deserves," said Krzykowski. "This honor is also a reflection of the offensive coaching staff and the other players that played on that side of the ball."
In addition to his destruction in the rushing game, Williams was equally impressive as a kick-off returner, routinely changing momentum in games. He constantly gave the Pioneers good starting field position and returned three kick-offs for touchdowns.
Williams etched his named prominently in the Carroll record books for games, seasons and career. In all, he set 13 Carroll records in his career.

Krzykowski and Williams will be honored at the WFCA All-State banquet. The banquet is scheduled for noon on Sunday, January 25, in the Lambeau Field Atrium in Green Bay, Wis.
