RIPON, Wis. - After one day of action in the 2014 Midwest Conference Baseball Championship St. Norbert is in the drivers seat as they grabbed a pair of wins on day one. Ripon and Grinnell also advance to day two with victories while Cornell was eliminated from the championship tournament.
Ripon started off the day with an 11-6 win over Cornell while St. Norbert doubled up Grinnell 14-7 in a game that took place at the same time in Fond du Lac, Wis. In the first elimination game of the day Grinnell defeated Cornell 7-3. In a battle between winning teams that preceded Grinnell’s win St. Norbert defeated host Ripon 7-5 to ensure themselves of being the only undefeated team left in the tournament.
Day two opens up with another elimination game as Ripon will once against faceoff against Cornell with the loser being eliminated and the winner moving on to face St. Norbert for the MWC Championship. St. Norbert needs just one win to claim a MWC Championship while the winner of the first contest between Ripon and Grinnell would need to defeat St. Norbert in back-to-back games to win the double elimination tournament.
First pitch for the Ripon/Grinnell game will be at 10 a.m. The winner plays St. Norbert at 1 p.m. in the championship game with a possible second championship game (if St. Norbert suffers a loss) at 1 p.m.
