GRINNELL, Iowa – Lake Forest College freshman Trevor Allen has been named the Midwest Conference (MWC) Men’s Tennis Performer of the Week on Tuesday.

Allen was 7-0 on the week as Lake Forest rattled off four consecutive MWC victories at home. He and Ellis Lora-Arceo won 8-3 at No. 2 doubles and Allen posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles during a 9-0 sweep of Carroll University on Tuesday. Lake Forest won 9-0 against St. Norbert College and 8-1 versus Lawrence University on Saturday. Allen and Lora-Arceo prevailed 8-1 in the first match and 8-3 in the second while Allen added 6-0, 6-1 victories in both contests. Finally, in a 9-0 triumph over Ripon on Sunday, Allen and Lora-Arceo moved up a spot in the lineup and defeated the Red Hawks' top doubles team 8-2.
Notable Performances
Gabriel Souza went 6-0 at the top of the lineup and tied a pair of school records in leading Cornell College to a 2-1 week against MWC foes. The freshman recorded his 37th overall win Sunday, which tied the program's single-season mark. Souza also equaled the school record for most doubles wins in a season with his 19th victory. He stands 37-9 overall, playing at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles.
Ronnie Griffin posted a 4-2 overall record in three matches last week, helping Monmouth College clinch a berth in the Midwest Conference Team Championships. The sophomore didn't drop a game at No. 3 doubles or No. 6 singles in Monmouth's 9-0 blanking of Knox to begin the week. He concluded the week in much the same fashion in the Scots' 5-4 MWC berth-clinching win over Cornell. Griffin and doubles partner Dylan Wong rolled to an 8-2 win at No. 3 before Griffin blanked his Rams' counterpart at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-0. His only blemish on the week came in a pair of losses to Grinnell where he narrowly fell at No. 6 singles, 6-7, 6-1, 10-4.
Grinnell College’s Cole Miller went 3-0 last week in wins over Monmouth and Illinois College. Miller scored a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles against the Fighting Scots and teamed up with C.J. Ray to earn an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles. Against Illinois College, Ray and Miller defeated the Blueboys’ No. 1 duo 8-0.
