GRINNELL, Iowa — Grinnell College senior pitcher Brock Weirather was named National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division III Pitcher of the Week for games played April 19-25 announced today.
This week’s Midwest Conference (MWC) Pitcher Performer of the Week honoree, Brock Weirather tossed the third perfect game at the Division III level this season and the 18
th since 2007. Weirather needed just 83 pitches to complete the 13-0 seven-inning victory against Knox College. He struck out 14 batters – the fifth-highest total in Grinnell history – and the perfect game was the program’s second. The two-way pitcher hit .563 during the four-game set, going for 9-for-16 with a homer, triple, double, eight RBI, and seven runs scored.
Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters, and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates, and official votes in the Dick Howser Player of the Year Award, Regional Player of the Year, and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors preseason All-America awards, publications contests, and writing contests.
