Grinnell Women Win 2023 MWC Cross Country Crown, Miyamoto Claims Individual Title

GRINNELL, Iowa – For the first time since 2019, Grinnell College took home the 2023 Midwest Conference (MWC) Women’s Cross Country Championship.
 
The Pioneers totaled 37 points behind Keely Miyamoto’s individual championship performance, finishing the 6k in 22:46.88. The Pioneers also picked up a third-place finish with Morgan Karow’s 23:03.86 outing, along with tenth through twelfth place.
 
Lawrence University finished second with 50 points and last year’s champion, Ripon College, claimed third with 54 points and a second-place finish from Ali Denamur (22:55.34).
 
The Vikings’ Jane Partsch finished 13th in the individual standings to claim the 2023 MWC Women’s Cross Country Newcomer of the Year award. Partsch clocked in at 24:12.20.
 
Cornell College’s Isabella Anderson received the MWC Elite 20 award, given to the student-athlete competing in the championship with the highest cumulative grade-point average.
 
The Grinnell College coaching staff received the 2023 MWC Women’s Cross Country Coaching Staff of the Year honor, after a vote of the league’s head coaches. Led by third-year head coach Sarah Burnell, the Pioneers acquired their program’s 21st team championship title and 12th individual crown, both league-bests.
