APPLETON, Wisconsin – Lawrence University claimed the 2024 Midwest Conference (MWC) Women’s Cross Country Championship on their home turf Saturday morning at Reid Municipal Golf Course in Appleton, Wisconsin.
This marks the fifth championship for the Vikings' program and their second title in four years.
Lawrence's
Cristyn Oliver won the individual title with a 6k time of 21:55.83, achieving her third championship victory in four years. Oliver’s third crown sets a league record for the most women’s cross country individual titles, breaking the previous record of two, which had been held by eight other runners, including herself.
In addition to Oliver’s win,
Mila Westra placed third (22:33.10) and earned Newcomer of the Year honors as the top finisher among first-time competitors. The Vikings secured three additional finishes in the top 15, totaling 34 team points. Edythmae Frodl placed seventh (23:00.90), Riley Winebrenner ninth (23:07.92), and Amelia Wiesner fourteenth (23:51.42). Jane Partsch also finished twentieth, earning a spot on the All-Conference team.
Grinnell College took second place with 45 points, followed by Ripon College (68), Cornell College (94), and Lake Forest College (164) to complete the top five.
The
Lawrence University coaching staff was recognized as the 2024 MWC Women’s Cross Country Coaching Staff of the Year. The Vikings are led by sixteenth-year head coach Jason Fast and assistant Shelby Baldwin.
Sophie Stumbo of Cornell College received the 2024 MWC Women’s Cross Country Elite 20 award as the student-athlete competing in the championship with the highest cumulative grade-point average.
