GRINNELL, Iowa – The Midwest Conference (MWC) announced Thursday the 2023 MWC Baseball All-Conference First and Second Teams, along with individual awards, as voted by the league's head coaches. The University of Chicago's Drew Bryan and Beloit College's Matt O'Leary headline the teams as Pitcher of the Year and Position Player of the Year, respectively.
 
Bryan posted a 5-0 record for the Maroons in MWC play, maintaining a 1.85 earned run average over 34 innings pitched, striking out 57 batters. Bryan's ERA led the league, along with his opposing batting average (.129), batters struck out looking (21), hits allowed (15), runs allowed (8), and earned runs allowed (7).
 
O'Leary started all 24 conference games for the Buccaneers this season, hitting .412 with a .741 slugging percentage, .567 on-base percentage, and batting in 28 runs. O'Leary led the league in walks (30) and finished second in runs scored (39).
 
Ripon College's Kyler Hickman was tabbed as the MWC Baseball Newcomer of the Year. Hickman appeared in all 24 MWC games for the Red Hawks, starting in 23. Hickman hit .456, slugged .733 with 7 doubles, 6 homeruns, and 29 runs batted in.
 
In his 33^rd season as head coach of the Buccaneers, Dave DeGeorge was named MWC Baseball Coach of the Year by his peers. DeGeorge led the Buccaneers to a 20-4 league record, a program-record 31 wins overall (31-12), and a sweep of the MWC regular season championship and tournament titles. This weekend, Beloit will make its return to the NCAA postseason for the first time since 2016. 
 
Grinnell College was recognized as the team that best exemplifies and upholds the league's sportsmanship ideals by receiving the MWC Baseball Team Sportsmanship Award.
