GRINNELL, Iowa – Lawrence University picked up three of the top accolades for the 2024 Midwest Conference (MWC) baseball season, the league announced Thursday. The nine MWC baseball head coaches nominate and vote on all awards.

The Vikings’ Quinn Berglin was crowned MWC Baseball Pitcher of the Year and teammate Jacob Charon was named MWC Baseball Position Player of the Year, while head coach Chris Krepline received MWC Baseball Coach of the Year honors.

In conference play, Berglin, a senior right-hand pitcher, led the league in ERA (1.74) and wins, going 6-0 with 41.1 innings pitched, good for second. Berglin also tied second in batters struck out (43) and earned runs allowed (8), and third in runs allowed (13).

Charon, a senior outfielder, paced the league in batting average (.534), on base percentage (.620), and hits (47) through 23 MWC games. Charon finished second in slugging percentage (.852) and on base plus slugging percentage (1.472), and third in RBI (32). Charon also scored 28 runs, including eight doubles and six homeruns.

The league's head coaches acknowledged Krepline as Coach of the Year for the second time in three seasons. Under the direction of Krepline, Lawrence set a new season win record with 31 overall victories, besting the 26-win mark set two seasons ago. In conference play, the Vikings went 20-3, finishing first in the regular season standings and winning its second MWC Baseball Championship title in three years, sixth overall.

Cornell College freshman infielder, Cade Parks won MWC Baseball Newcomer of the Year. Parks started all 24 MWC games for the Rams, finishing fourth in hits (39), tied for fourth in doubles (9), and fifth in batting average (.390) and at-bats (100). Parks scored 18 runs, including one homerun, and batted in 27 runs, posting a .474 slug percentage, and .433 on-base percentage.

Berglin and Charon headlined the MWC Baseball First Team All-Conference selections, and Parks garnered an All-MWC Second Team honor.

Each year, the MWC recognizes one baseball program that best exemplifies and upholds the ideals of sportsmanship with the Team Sportsmanship Award. Monmouth College was selected by the league’s head coaches as the 2024 recipient of the award. The Fighting Scots are led by head coach Alan Betourne.
