OSHKOSH, Wisconsin – The Midwest Conference (MWC) announced its Performers of the Week award recipients for games played September 29-October 5, 2025, on Tuesday.
MWC sports information directors nominate student-athletes for the Performer of the Week honor by sport and vote as a committee to select the winners.
For the fall season, Performers of the Week will be recognized every week on Monday (football, soccer) and Tuesday (cross country, women’s tennis, volleyball) once their seasons have been triggered (three MWC institutions competing) and will conclude the week prior to the sport-specific Conference tournament/championship.
The Performer of the Week award winners are as follows:
Men’s Cross Country Performer of the Week
Isaac vanWestrienen, Cornell College
VanWestrienen turned in an impressive season debut, placing third out of 278 finishers at Wartburg's Dan Huston Invitational which featured six regionally-ranked teams. The senior two-time NCAA qualifier was second among all collegiate competitors, clocking an 8K mark of 24:28.
Women’s Cross Country Performer of the Week
Joley Berger, Ripon College
Berger recorded a 22:46.6 this weekend at the BluGold Invite, finishing tenth overall in the stacked field. Her finish helped the Red Hawks finish 16th as a team out of 36 competing programs.
Women’s Tennis Performer of the Week
Michaela Clark, Cornell College
Clark won all three of her matches atop the lineup as Cornell rolled to 7-0 sweeps over Illinois College and Monmouth to clinch a berth in the MWC Tournament. At No. 1 singles, the sophomore earned a 7-6, 6-1 win over Illinois College and cruised 6-1, 6-2 against Monmouth. Clark claimed a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles against Illinois College. The Rams improved to 10-1 in duals this season.
Volleyball Defensive Performer of the Week
Selia Stein, Cornell College
Stein averaged 1.29 blocks per set during Cornell's 2-0 weekend to start MWC play. The freshman recorded seven blocks in a 3-1 road win over Lawrence and also posted a .308 attack percentage for the Week. Stein ranks 30th nationally in total blocks.
Volleyball Offensive Performer of the Week
Millie Leonard, Grinnell College
Leonard dominated at the net, pounding down 29 kills with just one error as the Pioneers won both league road matches over the weekend. She posted a .537 hitting efficiency with 4.14 kills per set as Grinnell swept Lake Forest College, the Pioneers’ first victory on the Foresters’ floor since 2002, and four-set win at Lawrence University. Grinnell remained unbeaten in MWC play at 3-0.
