GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College senior
Wilder Cooke has been named the 2025 Midwest Conference (MWC) Men’s Tennis Player of the Year, headlining this year’s All-Conference and major award selections.
Cooke, an All-Conference Singles honoree, anchored the Pioneers at the top of the lineup with a 13-12 overall record at No. 1 singles, including a perfect 2-0 mark in league play. He also paired with Sam Rudenberg at No. 2 doubles, where the duo posted a 10-13 overall record and went 1-1 in conference action. Cooke played a key role in leading Grinnell to its 21st consecutive MWC regular season title, continuing one of the most dominant runs in league history.
Lake Forest College’s
Felipe Moraes was named the 2025 MWC Newcomer of the Year after an exceptional freshman season. A versatile contributor, Moraes rotated between the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 singles positions, finishing with a standout 19-6 overall record and an undefeated 6-0 mark in MWC play. He and partner Daniel Tulchinskiy also earned All-Conference Doubles honors after going 14-12 overall and 5-1 in conference. Moraes was selected to both the All-Conference Singles and Doubles Teams.
Illinois College’s
Scott Weakley was named the 2025 MWC Men’s Tennis Coach of the Year. In his third season leading the program, Weakley guided the Blueboys to an 8-16 overall record and a 3-3 mark in conference play, culminating in the program’s first-ever appearance in the MWC postseason tournament. The
Blueboys also received the 2025 MWC Team Sportsmanship Award, presented to the team that best embodies the league’s commitment sportsmanship.
The MWC postseason honors are determined by a vote of the league’s seven head coaches, who are not permitted to vote for their own players or teams. This marks the fourth presentation of the MWC Men’s Tennis Player of the Year award and the second year that All-Conference Singles and Doubles Teams were selected by coaches rather than based on results from the MWC Individual Tournament.
