APPLETON, Wisconsin – Beloit College won its third consecutive Midwest Conference (MWC) Baseball Tournament championship on Saturday evening, completing an impressive run with three straight victories to secure the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The Buccaneers opened Saturday by shutting out top-seeded and host Lawrence University 7-0 in an elimination game. Beloit’s pitching staff held the Vikings to just three hits, while the offense struck early and often, highlighted by a three-run fourth inning.

In the first championship game, Beloit erupted for 16 runs on 16 hits to overpower Monmouth College, 16-4. A six-run second inning gave the Buccaneers early momentum, and they kept the pressure on by scoring in five different frames.

Beloit and Monmouth met again in the second championship game, with the Buccaneers completing their title run with an 11-4 victory. The Fighting Scots took an early lead with a three-run first inning, but the Buccaneers responded with two runs in the bottom of the first and a five-run third that turned the game around. Beloit out-hit Monmouth 17-8 in the final.

The Fighting Scots finish their season with a 19-22 overall record.

Beloit now advances to the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament with a 29-14 overall record. The Buccaneers will learn their postseason destination during Monday’s NCAA Selection Show at 11:00 a.m.
