Lardi, Freeman Earn Top Honors in 2025 MWC Baseball Awards

GRINNELL, Iowa – On Thursday, the Midwest Conference (MWC) announced its 2025 Baseball All-Conference Teams and major individual awards.
 
Headlining this year’s honorees are Charlie Lardi of Illinois College and Taylor Freeman of Lawrence University, who were named Pitcher of the Year and Position Player of the Year, respectively. Both standouts also earned spots on the All-Conference First Team.
 
Sophomore pitcher Charlie Lardi led the MWC with a 0.79 ERA in conference play. Over 45.1 innings, Lardi struck out 59 batters, including 19 looking, while holding opponents to a .150 batting average. He allowed just nine runs and posted a 5-1 record in league play.
 
Senior infielder Taylor Freeman paced the league with a .458 batting average and a 1.438 OPS, tallying 38 hits, 34 runs, 10 home runs, and 33 RBIs in conference action. Freeman also led the league with a .892 slugging percentage, went a perfect 22-for-22 in stolen bases, and ranked second with a .536 on-base percentage.
 
Beloit College freshman pitcher Maddon McArthur was named Newcomer of the Year and earned Second Team All-Conference honors. In MWC play, McArthur appeared in nine games for the Buccaneers, posting a 1-2 record and four saves. Over 21.2 innings, he recorded a 3.80 ERA, struck out 20 batters, and held opponents to a .213 batting average.
 
Alan Betourne, head coach at Monmouth College, was selected by his peers as the Coach of the Year. In his tenth season at the helm, Betourne led the Fighting Scots to a 12-9 record in MWC play and a third-place finish in the regular season standings, an improvement from sixth place a year ago. In the MWC Tournament, Monmouth won two games on opening day to advance to the tournament championship game, where the Scots ultimately fell to Beloit.
 
For the second consecutive year, Monmouth College received the Team Sportsmanship Award, presented to the baseball program that best exemplifies and upholds the ideals of sportsmanship.
