OSHKOSH, Wisconsin – The Grinnell College, Cornell College and Lake Forest College women’s tennis programs are all ranked in the latest iteration of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III Women’s Computerized Team Rankings, announced by the organization on Wednesday.
Ranked 27th with a record of 13-5, Grinnell had a successful weekend at the Midwest Invite in Madison last Friday and Saturday (April 3-4). Playing a trio of 4-3 matches, the Pioneers defeated #28 UW-La Crosse before falling to #23 Denison in the semifinals. Grinnell rebounded with a victory over #34 Hope on Saturday to take third place in the prestigious tournament. The Pioneers visit #2 WashU on Sunday, April 12.
Cornell has a 20-3 overall record and is ranked 59th in the poll. The Rams have won their last 10 matches with their three losses coming in a three-week stretch from September 21 through October 12. Cornell has not dropped a match in the spring and most recently defeated Division II Truman State, 4-3, at home on March 29. The Rams return to action this week with two matches, visiting Loras (April 9) before returning home to face Central (April 12).
Lake Forest has a 13-3 overall record and checks into the rankings at #63. The Foresters have won three of four spring matches, most recently falling at Hope on March 20 (6-1). All three of LFC’s losses have come to teams currently ranked by the ITA (North Central (Ill.), Grinnell, Hope). Lake Forest hosts Augustana (April 8) and UC Santa Cruz (April 12) before ending the regular season at North Park next Wednesday (April 15).
Grinnell won the Midwest Conference women’s tennis regular season title in the fall, its sixth consecutive league crown. The Pioneers will be the #1 seed in May’s MWC Tournament, searching for their sixth-straight NCAA Tournament berth. Cornell will be the third seed in the tournament, facing second-seeded Lake Forest in the semifinals. The Rams are looking to win their first MWC Tournament in school history, while Lake Forest is searching for its fourth such title (and first since 2019).
