Grinnell Takes MWC Tournament Title for Sixth Consecutive Season

MADISON, Wisconsin – Grinnell College won its sixth consecutive Midwest Conference Tournament title with a 4-0 victory over Lake Forest College on Saturday night in the tournament final at the Powless Tennis Center. With the win, the Pioneers earned the league’s automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament and improved to 16-6 overall. The title is the 17th overall for Grinnell.
 
Grinnell started strong, claiming a 6-0 win in doubles on court three thanks to Pari Chavan and Marta Gonzalez. After Lake Forest won 6-4 on court one (Sophia Strupovets and Lilli Dockal), the critical doubles point came down to court two, where Grinnell's pair of Tan Mukherjee and Eliana Martin was victorious 7-5 and began singles with a 1-0 lead.
 
Lake Forest took four first sets in singles, but the Pioneers raced out to a 3-0 lead after singles wins on courts six (Martin) and five (Anika Sheth). Grinnell then clinched the match with a three-set victory on court three by Gonzalez.
 
Grinnell and Lake Forest advanced to the championship match after claiming semifinal wins over Illinois College and Cornell College, respectively. Grinnell defeated Illinois College 4-0 while Lake Forest took down Cornell 4-3.
 
Lake Forest finishes the season with a 16-5 overall record, while Illinois College wraps up at 16-9 and Cornell ends 24-4.
 
Grinnell now awaits its NCAA Tournament destination, to be announced Monday, May 4 via the NCAA Selection Show. The selections will be streamed live at 11 a.m. on NCAA.com.
