MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – After the first day of the 2026 Midwest Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the Grinnell College Pioneers lead the field at the event hosted by Cornell College.
Through six scored events, Grinnell is in first place with 45 points. Ripon College stands in second (35 points) after a first-place finish by Joley Berger in the 10K (37:01.25).
Illinois College sits in third place (34 points) thanks to victories in the javelin (Keyleigh Thomas, 41.46m) and the long jump (Deja Anderson, 5.49m).
Cornell and Monmouth College are tied for fourth with 31 points, and both schools earned event wins on Friday. Cornell’s Ava Claussen-Tubbs won the 1500 in 4:39.56, while Monmouth’s Kayla Braun was the shot put winner (13.65m).
Lawrence University has 26 points, good for sixth place. Beloit College (seventh place) totaled 24 points on day one, highlighted by Naomee Casey’s pole vault win (3.20m).
Knox College rounds out the standings, garnering 7 points on day one. Lake Forest College did not find the scoreboard on Friday.
The championship meet continues Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m., beginning with field events, while running events start at 12:15 p.m.
