Blueboys Secure First Ever MWC Men's Outdoor Track and Field Title

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The Illinois College men’s outdoor track and field program won its first Midwest Conference men’s outdoor track and field title in school history on Saturday afternoon at Ash Park on the campus of Cornell College.
 
Totaling 155 points throughout the 2026 Midwest Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the Blueboys won five events on Saturday. Kani Carson won both the 100 (10.57) and 200 (21.26) while the 4x100 foursome of Carson, Ki’on Carson, Blake Larson and Sam Stimler crossed the tape in 41.41. Jacob Kollman won the triple jump (13.76m) and Adam Hernandez was the 110 hurdles champion (14.36). Deon Rodgers was selected as the Men’s Outstanding Field Performer for a trio of top-eight finishes over the weekend (discus, hammer, shot put), while the IC staff – led by Dirk Doehring – was named the Men’s Coaching Staff of the Year.
 
Cornell College came in second place with 127 points. Isaac vanWestrienen set a meet record in the 5K, going 14:21.43, to win both distance titles at this year’s championships. He was also named the Men’s Outstanding Track Performer. Ike Claussen-Tubbs also gave the Rams the high jump crown (1.96m) while Chase Staker won the 400 in 49.41.
 
Third place belonged to Grinnell College, who was aided by a 3000-meter steeplechase victory on Saturday from Luke Robinson (9:35.11).
 
Lawrence University finished in fourth place with 99 points. Brady Dilworth won the javelin event for the Vikings with a toss of 51.77m.
 
Monmouth College came in fifth place (86 points). The Fighting Scots’ 4x400 relay team of Logan Morse, Patrick Curry, Jr., Da’Von Patterson and Adrian Outlaw crossed the tape first in 3:22.06.
 
Beloit College took sixth place (75 points) as Nathaniel Otis was the 400 hurdles champ in 53.54.
 
With 58 points, Lake Forest College placed seventh. Ollie Francis gave the Foresters the 800 title, finishing in 1:55.14. Brayden Long was named the Men’s Newcomer of the Year following a pair of top-three finishes in the 100 and 200-meter dashes.
 
Braedy Picard was the shot put champion for Ripon College (15.60m) as the Red Hawks came in eighth place with 40 points as a team.
 
Knox College rounded out the standings, accumulating 20 points over the weekend. The Prairie Fire’s Lance Miller received the Elite 20 award, presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average among competitors in the men’s outdoor track and field championship.
