Day 1 Results
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – After the first day of competition at the 2011 Midwest Conference Women’s Golf Championships two-time defending champion Carroll University holds a 12 stroke lead over Grinnell College at The Rail Golf Course in Springfield, Ill.
The Pioneers shot a 338 to hold a comfortable lead over the field while Grinnell shot a 350 on the first day of action. Ripon is 13 shots behind Grinnell after firing a 363 while Monmouth College is in fourth place with a 376. St. Norbert College, Illinois College and Knox College round out the seven team field with scores of 393, 415 and 468, respectively.
Carroll’s Erin Sullivan is the clubhouse leader with an 18-hole score of 80 on the par 72 course. Sullivan’s teammate, Angelina Parinello held the third lowest score of the day with an 82. Grinnell also had a pair of golfers in the top-five as Elizabeth Burnett was only one shot off the lead with a first day total of 81 while teammate and Mallory Messin (85, t-4th) also had a solid round. Knox’s Mia Savard tied Messin with a first round 85 to round out the top-five.
The 2011 MWC Championship will continue tomorrow with a shotgun start time set for 9:00 a.m. at The Rail Golf Course.
