Lake Forest, Grinnell, Hold Leads Through Day Two Of Swim Championships

APPLETON, Wis. – Day two of the 2012 Midwest Conference Swimming and Diving Championships was much the same as day one as Grinnell and Lake Forest captured a majority of the individual titles. Both the Lake Forest women and Grinnell men hold strong leads heading into the final day of competition.

Four conference records were broken on Saturday which included the Grinnell men’s 200-yard medley and 800-yard freestyle, Morgan Bober (Grinnell) in the 100-yard butterfly and Michael Brus (Grinnell) in the 200-yard freestyle. Brus earned an NCAA “A” cut with his 200-freestyle time while Becky Shaak earned a “B” cut in the 400-IM.

The Lake Forest women’s team earned 651 points through two days of competition and lead defending champion Grinnell by 77 points. Monmouth is in a distant third on the women’s side with 284 points. The Grinnell men chalked up 667.50 points in two days and leads second place Lake Forest by 211 points while Carroll rounds out the top-three with 259 points.

The swimming and diving championships will conclude tomorrow at Bold Natatorium on the campus of Lawrence University. The preliminary events will kick off at 9 a.m. with the 200-yard backstroke. You can find all results and broadcast information at the swimming and diving championship page. Only the finals events will be broadcasted on Sunday which will start at 4 p.m.
