APPLETON, Wis. – After three days of events the Lake Forest women and Grinnell men held leads from start to finish and win team titles at the 2012 Midwest Conference Swimming and Diving Championships which were held on the campus of Lawrence University.
After a second place finish last season the Foresters brought home their first team championship since the 1997-98 season and it is their 10th women’s championship in school history. Lake Forest finished with 878 points which were 54 points better than defending champion Grinnell. Monmouth finished third with 412.50 points.
The Grinnell men won their 11th straight team championship with 921.50 points and were followed by Lake Forest with 688.50 points and Carroll with 358 points.
Two more MWC Championship records were broken on Sunday by Michael Brus in the 200-yard backstroke and by the Lake Forest men’s 400-yard freestyle. Brus earned a NCAA “A” cut for his 200-backstroke performance while Becky Shaak swam a NCAA “B” cut in the 200-yard breaststroke.
Lake Forest Head Coach Vadim Tashlitsky was recognized as the Women’s Coach of the Year with Grinnell’s Erin Hurley receiving the Men’s Coach of the Year Award.
