ROCKFORD, IL – After two days at the 2013 Midwest Conference Women’s Golf Championship Illinois Col. still holds the lead but what was a 22 shot lead over Grinnell after day one is only down to one heading into the last day of competition.
The Lady Blues hold a two day total of 737 but shot a second day total of 375 that helped close the gap. Grinnell has a total of 738 strokes and shot the best score of any team on day two with a 354. St. Norbert had a strong second day (359) and sits in third place with 747 shots while Monmouth (367 second day, 750 total) and Carroll (374, 772) round out the field.
Mackenzie Barker (Illinois Col.) and Hannah Long (Monmouth) are still tied for the top spot after 36 holes as both paced a strong field with scores of 83 and a total of 170. St. Norbert’s Kylie Swoboda also shot an 83 and is two shots back of the top spot with a total of 172. Morgan Alewelt is in fourth with a 181 and Alexis Lintker (Illinois Col.) and Stephanie Spahr (Grinnell) are tied for the fifth spot with 183 shots.
The championship concludes tomorrow as teams will tee off at 10:30 a.m. at Aldeen Golf Club.
