GRINNELL, Iowa – St. Norbert, Lawrence, and Carroll earned honors as part of the 2014 Midwest Conference All-North Division team. Lawrence shortstop Amanda Jaskolski was named North Division Player of the Year while St. Norbert pitcher Morgan Rusch earned North Division Pitcher of the Year. JoAnn Krueger (St. Norbert) and Amy Gradecki (Carroll) shared the 2014 North Division Coach of the Year honors.
Jaskolski won the MWC North Division Player of the Year award for the first time in her career and it is the first time a Lawrence player has won the award since 2009 when Carli Gurholt was a co-winner. Jaskolski finished the year ranked fourth in the league in average (.409), on base percentage (.475), and slugging percentage (.727). She also drove in 30 runs with eight doubles, six home runs, and a triple.
Rusch became the first Green Knight to win MWC North Divisoin Pitcher of the Year since 2010 when Kayla Krueger won it for the second time and Rusch is the only St. Norbert pitcher to win the award. Rusch threw the second-most innings of anyone in the league this season (145) and finished sixth in ERA (3.04) and opponent batting average (.262). She picked up 11 wins on the year and stuck out 59 batters in 20 starts.
For the second consecutive season there was a share of the MWC North Division Coach of the Year Awards. Gradecki won the award for the second time while Krueger is a back-to-back winner with this being her fifth award. Gradecki’s Pioneers finished the year with 13 wins and hit .277 with a 4.30 team ERA. Krueger led the Green Knights to the MWC Championship Tournament for the eighth straight season after winning the North Division for the third straight year. Krueger’s team finished fourth in the conference with a 3.74 team ERA while the offensive unit finished second in the league with nine triples and fourth in the league with 16 home runs.

Grinnell, Iowa – Lake Forest and Monmouth took home league honors as part of the 2014 Midwest Conference All-South Division Softball team. Lake Forest outfielder Kayla Borgra and Monmouth first baseman Sommer Foster were named South Division Co-Player of the Year while Lake Forest’s Jenny McTeague was named South Division Pitcher of the Year. Joe Kinsella was tabbed South Division Coach of the Year after his Forester team brought home the MWC Championship.
For the first time since 2011 the MWC South Division Position Player of the Year award was shared with Borgra becoming the second straight Forester to win the award while Foster was the fifth different Fighting Scot player to win it. Borgra topped the charts among all players with a .757 slugging percentage and a .532 on base percentage to go along with the league’s second-best batting average (.427). She also co-led the league with 14 doubles and finished fourth with six home runs. Foster batted .382 with a .453 on base percentage for Monmouth and helped the Fighting Scots reach the MWC Championship Tournament. Foster also led all players with 40 runs scored and contributed 14 doubles (tied first) and 47 hits (second).
McTague is the second straight Lake Forest freshman to win MWC South Division Pitcher of the Year and the fifth Forester to win the award overall. In her freshman campaign McTague led the league with a 1.11 ERA and held opposing hitters to a conference-low .196 batting average. In 94.2 innings she struck out 94 batters and allowed only 15 earned runs all season.
This is the third time Kinsella was named MWC South Division Coach of the Year and the first tie since the 2010 season. Under hit watch the Foresters won 26 games, the third-most in school history, and won the MWC Championship for the seventh time. In 2014 Lake Forest led the league in batting average (.325), slugging percentage (.539), on base percentage (.404), runs scored (257), RBI (225), home runs (45), total bases (507), ERA (1.67), opposing batting average (.217), and strikeouts (225).
