GRINNELL, Iowa – Ripon College women’s basketball will once again be the number one seed and host the 2022 Midwest Conference (MWC) Women’s Basketball Tournament for the fourth consecutive season.
The Red Hawks finished the season as Conference Champions with a 15-1 league record (16-9 overall). After suffering its only loss in league play to Grinnell on January 22, Ripon closed out league play on an eight-game win streak heading into the postseason.
The four-team women’s tournament action will begin Friday, February 25 at 3:30 p.m. with the No. 2 seed Monmouth College taking on the No. 3 seed Knox College. Ripon will tip-off against the No. 4 seed Illinois College in the second women’s semi-final at 8:00 p.m.
Ending the season on a two-game win streak, Illinois College (9-6 MWC, 10-10 overall) will be making its first MWC Tournament since 2015. The Lady Blues played two close games against the Red Hawks this season, despite falling in both contests.
During the season, Monmouth and Knox split wins against each other, with Monmouth winning the last meeting.
The Fighting Scots won the last MWC Women’s Basketball Tournament title in 2020 and made its second NCAA Tournament appearance by the defeating the Red Hawks. Monmouth enters the postseason with a 10-6 MWC record (13-9 overall).
Making their third tournament appearance in four seasons, the Prairie Fire have a 10-6 league record (12-12 overall). During the January stretch of conference play, Knox went on an eight-game win streak before losing a close game to Monmouth that would end the run.
The winners of both semifinals will meet at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 26, to compete for the tournament crown and the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
