GALESBURG, Illinois — Seth McDowell has been hired as the Knox College Head Women’s Basketball Coach, announced Director of Athletics Corey Goff on Monday.
McDowell has over 15 years of coaching experience, most recently as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at St. Louis Community College for one season.
"We are thrilled to welcome Seth to the Knox community,” said Goff “With his experience as a head coach, passion for and deep knowledge of the game, we are confident Coach McDowell is positioned well to assist our student-athletes in their pursuit of excellence on and off the court.”
Prior to St. Louis Community College, McDowell spent two years as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Harris-Stowe State University in St. Louis. In the 2020-21 season, McDowell coached the America Midwest Conference (AMC) Newcomer of the Year. He also had three other all-conference performers with the Hornets. McDowell also served as the Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Harris-Stowe during the 2017-18 season. He helped guide the team to a 13-18 overall record and 11-13 mark in conference play. He played a big role in developing post players, breaking down film, and defensive instruction.
“First I want to thank Director of Athletics Corey Goff, the search committee, and Knox College for allowing me the opportunity to lead the Women’s Basketball Program. I am excited to have the opportunity to lead this program as they come off one of the most successful seasons in their history,” said McDowell. “I can’t wait to get started building relationships with the highly motivated women on the team along with the entire Knox community. We want to continue to compete for championships on a yearly basis while winning in the classroom as well. We will play an exciting brand of basketball with great energy and passion.”
Between stints at Harris-Stowe, McDowell served one year as the Assistant Women's Basketball Coach at fellow AMC institution Missouri Baptist University. In his lone season with the Spartans, Seth helped produce 12 Academic All-Conference recipients and an All-AMC Honorable Mention. He assisted with on floor coaching, recruiting, skill development, post development, opponent scouting, film, travel, and budgeting while at Missouri Baptist.
In addition to his time in the college ranks, McDowell has served as an Assistant Varsity Boys Basketball Coach in the Cape Girardeau Public School District, a Head Varsity Boys' Basketball Coach at Winfield R-IV School District, and a Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach in the Orchard Farm School District. He has also worked as an assistant skills development coach for Pure Sweat Basketball and as a college basketball scout for National Scouting Report.
McDowell played college football at Southeast Missouri State University from 2002 to 2006 and received a Bachelor's of Science in Criminal Justice. He also received his Master's of Science in Sports Administration at Arkansas State University.
