GRINNELL, Iowa – The league’s nine head coaches have selected the 2024 Midwest Conference (MWC) Women’s Soccer All-Conference Team and individual awards, naming Lake Forest College’s
Anna Hoffman and Lawrence University’s
Maya Alberts as the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively. Both players were also named to the First Team All-MWC.
Hoffman, a junior midfielder for the Foresters, led the league in goals (1o), points (22), shots (39), and shots on goal (21) against MWC opponents. She spearheaded a Lake Forest offense that ranked first in goals (33), assists (26), and points (92) over eight conference games.
Alberts, a senior defender, anchored a strong Vikings backline that allowed just six goals in league play, ranking second with a 0.50 goals-against average. In addition to her defensive contributions, Alberts ranked second in the league in goals with 6, averaging 1.5 points per game.
Lake Forest freshman
Annabelle Schroeder was named the MWC Women’s Soccer Newcomer of the Year. Schroeder started all eight conference games for the Foresters, tallying two goals on six shots, including four on target.
Lawrence University head coach
Joe Sagar was selected by his peers as the MWC Women’s Soccer Coach of the Year. In his seventh season, Sagar guided the Vikings to a share of the regular-season championship and the MWC Tournament title. Lawrence posted a 7-0-1 record in conference play and enters today’s NCAA Tournament opener with an overall record of 15-4-2.
Cornell College received the Team Sportsmanship Award for women’s soccer, which honors the team that best exemplifies and upholds the MWC’s sportsmanship ideals. The Rams are led by first-year head coach Sarah Campbell.
