Illinois College Tops Field to Claim First MWC Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship

APPLETON, Wisconsin – For the first time in program history, the Illinois College Lady Blues are the Midwest Conference (MWC) Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Champions.
 
The Lady Blues scored 139 points to edge out defending champion Ripon College, which finished second with 134.5 points. Monmouth College placed third with 131 points, followed by Grinnell College in fourth (120 points) and Cornell College in fifth (98 points). Host Lawrence University finished sixth with 76 points. Rounding out the standings were Beloit College (37), Lake Forest College (29), and Knox College (15.5).
 
Illinois College claimed five event titles on the second day of competition: the 100m hurdles (Aleese Trimingham – 14.64), 100m dash (Haley Garrett – 25.04), 400m hurdles (Aleese Trimingham – 1:03.63), 4x400m relay (4:00.74), and 4x100m relay (47.95).
 
Monmouth picked up a win in the shot put (Maddie Boley – 13.20m), while Grinnell earned titles in the javelin (Juniper Schwartzmann – 34.38m), triple jump (Rajanea Landers – 10.74m), and 3000m steeplechase (Hannah Roth – 11:02.83).
 
Cornell College took home three titles: the 400m (Willow Ziegler – 58.99), high jump (Hailey Carolan – 1.69m), and 800m (Ava Claussen-Tubbs – 2:14.10). Lawrence University won the final event of the day in the 5000m (Cristyn Oliver – 17:51.18).
 
Following the conclusion of the meet, Illinois College’s McKenzie Murray was named MWC Newcomer of the Year. Aleese Trimingham was honored as the MWC Outstanding Women’s Track Performer, and Brooke Oakley received the Elite 20 Award, presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average competing in the championship. The Lady Blues’ coaching staff, led by head coach Dirk Doehring, was named Coaching Staff of the Year.
 
Monmouth’s Maddie Boley was recognized as the MWC Outstanding Women’s Field Performer.
