HILBERT, Wisconsin — The Midwest Conference kicked off the 12th Annual Giving Challenge on Wednesday, October 7.
MWC institutions are participating by collecting non-perishable goods and monetary donations to support local food pantries, shelters, and similar community organizations. Each donation is converted to an equivalency total: one for each canned good and two for each dollar donated.
In the first week of collections, the MWC collected an impressive $1,324 and 1,310 non-perishable items across participating schools.
Illinois College leads the field after week one, collecting 53 cans and $667 for an equivalency total of 1,387.
Lawrence University stands in second place (1,141 equivalency) with 619 cans and $132. Cornell College is in third after totaling 508 cans and $132 for an equivalency total of 772.
Monmouth College collected $127 to stand in fifth place (254 equivalency), while Beloit College follows close behind with a 200 equivalency thanks to $100 collected.
Luther College begins its first MWC Giving Challenge in sixth place after collecting 23 cans and $37 (97 equivalency). Ripon College is in seventh with 89 cans (89 equivalency).
Grinnell College collected 18 cans in week one for an equivalency of 18. Lake Forest College and Knox College are also competing in this year’s Giving Challenge but did not record totals from week one.
As the Giving Challenge continues, we’re excited to see each institution’s generosity on display. Stay tuned for next week’s update as MWC teams work together to make a positive impact in their communities.
