DECORAH, Iowa – Kate Noonan’s penalty kick in the 57th minute was the difference in Saturday afternoon’s Midwest Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament final as Lawrence University defeated Luther College 1-0 for the school’s fifth MWC Tournament title.
Thanks to the victory, the Vikings will be making their fifth NCAA Tournament appearance in school history, and second in the last three seasons.
Defense was the star of the show in the opening half, as the teams were deadlocked at zero with a combined three shots between the sides. The game remained scoreless until the 57th minute, when Lawrence went in front thanks to Noonan’s tally. The Vikings stood tall the remainder of the afternoon, claiming another MWC Tournament title and punching its ticket to the NCAA Tournament.
Lawrence (14-2-5) had a slim 4-3 advantage in shots, with four different Vikings (Noonan, Isabelle Cromheecke, Sophia Gaus, Caroline Cody) recording shots. Claire Brockhert played all 90 minutes in goal but was not forced to make a save.
Luther ends its season 8-3-5. Sofia Biedermann, Riley Anderson and Kennedy Herrboldt each recorded a shot, while Rylie Bucklin notched two saves in goal.
Lawrence awaits its NCAA Tournament opponent and destination on Monday, November 9. The selection show begins at 10:30 a.m. and will be streamed live on
