OSHKOSH, Wisconsin – The honors keep rolling in for Cornell College’s Logan Gannon, who was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division III Pitcher of the Week on Wednesday afternoon.
A sophomore from Spring Hill, Florida, Gannon broke Cornell's single-game record with 18 strikeouts in a seven-inning, one-hit gem against Elms on Thursday, March 12 in a 4-1 Ram victory. The sophomore came within one strikeout of tying the Midwest record for strikeouts in a game, set back in 1933 – and 13 of his strikeouts were of the swinging variety. Gannon's lone hit allowed was an infield single in the second inning. He struck out the final five batters he faced in a 109-pitch outing.
For his efforts, Gannon was named the Midwest Conference Pitcher of the Week on March 16. He was also named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week on Wednesday morning. He is the first Cornell player to receive weekly NCBWA honors since Walker Beard in April 2015.
