OSHKOSH, Wisconsin – After winning its sixth Midwest Conference Tournament title in a row, the Grinnell College women’s tennis program has learned its destination in the NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Tournament. The Pioneers will take on Wheaton College (Ill.) on Thursday (May 7) in a regional hosted by Washington University in St. Louis.
Grinnell (16-6), ranked 30th nationally, punched its ticket to the 49-team national field after winning the Midwest Conference Team Tournament and claiming the automatic bid. The Pioneers defeated Lake Forest College 4-0 in the league’s tournament title match last Saturday.
Wheaton (16-5) earned its first CCIW Tournament title since 2019 (11th overall) with a 4-1 win over North Central (Ill.) in the CCIW Championship match on Saturday, April 25.
The winner of Thursday’s match will advance to face either #14 Kenyon (18-5) or Rose-Hulman (13-8) in the second round on Friday, May 8.
Also, in the WashU regional, the host Bears (#3, 17-3) will meet the winner of #33 Hope (16-7) and #40 Ohio Northern (18-4) on Friday. Match times are to be announced.
