[Day 2 Results]
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Carroll holds on to a slim lead after day two of the 2011 Midwest Conference Women’s Golf Championship at The Rail Golf Course in Springfield, Ill. The Pioneers shot a 337 to give them a two day total of 675 which is 14 strokes better than the second place finisher, Grinnell.
Grinnell holds onto the second spot as they shaved 11 strokes off their first day total by shooting a 339 in the second round. Spots three through five stayed the same as Ripon (370), Monmouth (369) and St. Norbert (402) hold those spots, respectively. The Fighting Scots were the only team of those three to improve in day to as they were seven shots better than its day one total of 376. Knox moved into the sixth spot with a 433 which was 35 strokes better than the day before and now are 11 strokes ahead of Illinois C. who shot a second day total of 497.
Carroll’s Angelina Parrinello jumped into the clubhouse lead after firing the lowest round among the 37 participants with a 76. Mallory Messin (Grinnell) is only seven shots back heading into the final round after scoring an 80 on the second day, five strokes better than her 85 on day one. Parrinello’s teammate, Erin Sullivan, was the day one leader but fell to the third spot after shooting an 87 while Grinnell’s Elizabeth Burnett and Knox’s Mia Savard hold a tie for fourth place with rounds of 89 and 85, respectively.
The championship will conclude tomorrow when grounds will tee off from holes one and 10 at 8:30 a.m. at The Rail Golf Course.
