APPLETON, Wis. – The Lake Forest women and Grinnell men hold the top spots after the first day of the 2012 Midwest Conference Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by Lawrence University.
The Foresters hold a 82 point lead over defending champion Grinnell while Monmouth is a distant third trailing Lake Forest by 168 points. On the men’s side the Pioneers are edging out Lake Forest by 87 points while Lawrence is 193.5 points behind in third place.
Three Midwest Conference Championship records were set on Friday night as Michael Brus broke the 500-yard freestyle record by over 10 seconds while Becky Shaak and the Lake Forest women’s 400-medley relay team also set new conference marks.
Lake Forest and Grinnell combined to win all but one gold medal in Friday’s events with Lawrence’s Taylor Winter winning the 500-yard freestyle. On the night Lake Forest men’s and women’s teams won seven events while Grinnell took home four individual and relay championships.
The winners on Friday night are as follows:

The swimming and diving championships will continue tomorrow at Bold Natatorium on the campus of Lawrence University. The preliminary events will kick off at 10 a.m. with the 200-yard medley relay’s. You can find all results and broadcast information at the swimming and diving championship page. Only the finals events will be broadcasted on Saturday and Sunday which will start at 5:30 p.m.
