GRINNELL, Iowa - Grinnell College swimmer Joshua Tibatemwa will be making a splash on the international scene next month.
It was officially confirmed over the weekend that Tibatemwa will be representing Uganda in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, next month.
He is the first Pioneer in the modern era to earn a spot in the Olympics while still a student at Grinnell.
The sophomore set two national records at last year’s World Championships in Kazan, Russia and has personal-best times of 25.54 in the 50-meter freestyle and 33 seconds in the 50-meter breastroke. Tibatemwa will compete in the 50-meter freestyle on Aug. 11.
