Schumacher Leads MWC At BlueBoy Invite to Earn Second Straight Weekly Honor

GRINNELL, Iowa – Illinois College hosted a pair of Midwest Conference (MWC) teams at its Blueboy Invite over the weekend. Knox College was the highest placing team from the league after putting up matching rounds of 312 for fourth place.
 
For the second week in a row, Josh Schumacher was the Prairie Fire’s top finisher as he earned a second straight MWC Men’s Golf Performer of the Week.
 
Players are nominated for Performer of the Week by their institution’s Sports Information Director; then one player is selected by the Conference Office. Selection is based off, in no order of priority, a nominee’s statistics, the strength of opponent, team record, individual accomplishments, and intangibles.

Below are Week Five’s MWC Performers of the Week and highlights from the weekend’s matches.

Josh Schumacher, Knox
Sophomore, Berthound, CO
 
Schumacher earns his second Performer of the Week honor in a row after leading Knox to a fourth place finish at Illinois College’s Blueboy Invite. The sophomore shot 76-78-154 to take tenth overall.

Illinois College
 
Illinois College hosted the Blueboy Invite over the weekend where it finished tenth after improving by 14 strokes on Saturday for a final score of 684. Louis Faivre was the team’s top finisher as he shot an opening round 79 followed by an 82 on the second day to tie for 29th at 161.
 
Knox
 
The Prairie Fire posted a pair of 312 rounds at the Blueboy Invite to finish fourth. For the second invitational in a row, Josh Schumacher led the team as he finish tenth with a 36-hole score of 154.
 
Lake Forest
 
Lake Forest had a 15-stroke improvement from day one to two at Millikin University’s Take Back the Night Challege to finish 11th overall. After shooting a round of 81 on Friday, Ricky Schmidt moved up 21 places after carding a 73 on Saturday to tie for 16th place.
 
Monmouth
 
The Scots opened with a round of 328 on Friday of the Blueboy Invite before posting a 348 Saturday to finish in ninth place. Sam Gillen and Nate Monroe finished a stroke apart to lead Monmouth. Gillen had a team-best score of 79 but it rose to 86 on day two for a final of 165. Monroe shot a bit more consistent as he carded a 81-85-166.
