GRINNELL, Iowa – The Midwest Conference (MWC) men’s golf teams got in their last tune-ups before the MWC Championship this coming weekend. Monmouth College’s hosted Knox College and Illinois College for the rain shortened Fighting Scot Invite.
St. Norbert College competed in a pair of one round meets with Jack Markham earning MWC Performer of the Week honors after recording his two best rounds of the year.
Players are nominated for Performer of the Week by their institution’s Sports Information Director; then one player is selected by the Conference Office. Selection is based off, in no order of priority, a nominee’s statistics, the strength of opponent, team record, individual accomplishments, and intangibles.
Below are Week Six’s MWC Performers of the Week and highlights from the weekend’s matches.
Performer of the Week
Jack Markham, St. Norbert
Sophomore, Lake Barrington, Ill.
Markham had his two best rounds of the season at the Carthage Spring Invitational and Carroll Hatchet Match. At Carthage on Tuesday shot a season low 73 then followed with a 74 at Carroll on Sunday. Though his rounds are from two separate competitions, if you combined the scores, the sophomore’s 147 would be the lowest 36-hole total of any MWC Performer of the Week this season.
