GRINNELL, Iowa – The Midwest Conference (MWC) announced its 2022 All-Conference Teams and major awards on Tuesday, as selected by the league’s head coaches.
Monmouth College fifth year senior
Korbyn Personett was selected as the MWC Football Defensive Line MVP for the second-straight season. Through nine league games, Personett recorded 15 solo tackles for loss and 8 solo sacks. The Scots ranked first in the league in sacks with 30.
University of Chicago junior linebacker
Will Skowronski is the league’s Defensive Skill MVP. Skowronski helped lead the league’s second-ranked defense that only allowed 13 touchdowns this season. Skowronski racked up 82 tackles in Conference play, including 48 solo.
Monmouth College senior offensive lineman
Derek Brown was named MWC Football Offensive Line MVP. Behind Brown and the rest of the offensive line, the Scots ranked first in league offense putting up 57 touchdowns and 3,903 total yards.
Ripon College fifth year senior
Cormac Madigan was honored as the MWC Football Offensive Skill MVP. Madigan rushed for 1,089 yards and 11 touchdowns for the Red Hawks. The running back also caught 25 passes for 277 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also averaged 151.8 all-purpose yards per game ranks. Madigan is also the recipient of the league’s Elite 20 award for football, presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average on the championship football team.
MWC Football Newcomer of the Year was awarded to University of Chicago freshman
Luke Degner. Degner caught 29 passes for 448 yards and 7 touchdowns for the third-ranked scoring offense, Maroons.
The
Lawrence University Vikings received the league’s Team Sportsmanship Award honor.
Ripon College head coach
Ron Ernst was selected by his peers as the 2022 MWC Football Coach of the Year. Ernst guided Ripon to an 8-1 record in league play (9-1 overall) and a share of its first MWC Football title since 2001. Ernst, the winningest coach in MWC football history with 193 total wins (151 MWC), is set to retire after 32 years leading the Red Hawks football program.
Ripon led all teams with 17 All-Conference selections, 7 First Team and 10 Second Team, while Lake Forest (8 First Team, 8 Second Team) and Monmouth (10 First Team, 6 Second Team) each received 16 selections.
