Lawrence Tops Lake Forest in Overtime to Win MWC Women’s Soccer Tournament Crown

LAKE FOREST, Illinois – For the first time since 2010, the Lawrence University Vikings are Midwest Conference (MWC) Women’s Soccer Tournament Champions. The Vikings defeated Lake Forest College 2-1 in an overtime thriller to claim their program’s fourth tournament crown.
 
Lawrence struck first, taking a 1-0 lead at the 22:10 mark.
 
Lake Forest equalized in the second half, scoring at the 57:18 mark.
 
With less than five minutes remaining in regulation, both teams had chances to score but were denied by key saves, sending the game into overtime tied 1-1.
 
With roughly 1:16 left in the first overtime period, the Vikings hit a shot off the crossbar that found its way into the back of the net to secure the win.
 
Lake Forest held an 8-7 edge in shots, with both teams recording 5 shots on goal. The Foresters also had a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks and the Vikings led 4-3 in saves.
 
The Foresters finish the season 14-3-3 (7-0-1 MWC), while the Vikings improve to 15-4-2 overall.
 
Lawrence will learn its NCAA Tournament destination on Monday, November 11, at 1:00 p.m. during the NCAA.com Selection Show.
