Grinnell Women Extend Lead on Third Day of MWC Championships

GRINNELL, Iowa – Day three of the Midwest Conference Women’s Swim and Dive Championships concluded with Grinnell College holding a 200+ point lead over the field with one day of competition remaining.
 
The Pioneers claimed three event titles on Saturday night. Simone Bennett set a meet record in the 100 backstroke prelims with a 57.08 time and won the event with a 57.34 showing in the finals. In 3-meter diving, Alex Kruse took the crown with a 476.20 performance – her second diving title of the weekend. Finally, the 400 medley relay foursome of Bennett, Joely Kam, Sarah Lopez and Tory Morse picked up first place in 3:55.03.
 
St. Norbert College is in second place, totaling 522 points. Katherine Thompson won the 200 freestyle in 1:57.13, while Ally Boyer paced the 100 breaststroke field in 1:06.69.
 
Lake Forest College sits in third place with 426 points. The Foresters received event titles from Audrey Kilmer (400 individual medley, 4:33.62) and Isabella Rozenbergas (100 butterfly, 55.83 – NCAA “B” cut).
 
Milwaukee School of Engineering rounds out the top half of the standings, amassing 254 points.
 
The rest of the standings conclude with Monmouth College (240 points), Illinois College (226 points), Lawrence University (221 points), Beloit College (195 points) and Ripon College (108 points).
 
Championship action concludes Sunday, February 22, at 9:00 a.m. with preliminary rounds for the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 400 free relay and 1650 freestyle. Final rounds begin at 4:00 p.m.
