Pioneers Pad Lead Through Three Days at MWC Men's Swim and Dive Championships

GRINNELL, Iowa – Through three days at the Midwest Conference Men’s Swim and Dive Championships, Grinnell College continues to lead the team standings after accumulating 705.5 total points with one day remaining.
 
The Pioneers won four events on Saturday to widen their lead. Spencer Pfaff won the 100 butterfly in 48.54, setting meet, conference and pool records while achieving an NCAA “B” cut time in the process. Evan Feilmeyer broke a pool record in the 200 freestyle, also recording an NCAA “B” cut time. Evan Ingraham was another Pioneer to record a “B” cut time in Saturday’s finals session, pacing the 100 backstroke field in 49.10. Finally, the 400 medley relay team of Ingraham, Pfaff, Aidan Donovan and Keely Yeager touched the wall first in 3:18.36 to set meet, conference and pool records.
 
Milwaukee School of Engineering stands in second place through Saturday’s competition with 614 points. The Raiders picked up one first place performance thanks to Evan Scapanski in the 100 breaststroke (56.60).

Lake Forest College, third with 389 points, earned a gold medal in the 400 individual medley as Matt Strada won the event in 4:04.78.
 
St. Norbert College is in fourth with 363.5 points. Owen Pittenger won his second diving event of the competition, this time with a 422.85 showing in the 3-meter event.
 
The standings round out with Illinois College (248 points), Monmouth College (172 points), Beloit College (159 points), Ripon College (113 points) and Lawrence University (100 points).
 
Championship action concludes Sunday, February 22, at 9:00 a.m. with preliminary rounds for the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 400 free relay and 1650 freestyle. Final rounds begin at 4:00 p.m.
