Red Hawks Sweep MWC Outdoor Track & Field Championships for Second Straight Year

JACKSONSVILLE, Illinois – Ripon College swept the 2024 Midwest Conference (MWC) Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships this weekend on the campus of Illinois College.  
 
The Red Hawks men’s squad scored 159 points to best the field for their third consecutive championship crown. Illinois College finished runner-up with 128 points ahead of Grinnell College in third with 112 points. Monmouth College (102.5) and Beloit College (91.5) rounded out the top five, followed by Cornell College (82), Lawrence University (71), Knox College (22), and Lake Forest College (11).
 
Ripon’s Dameco Walker was named the MWC Outstanding Field Performer after winning the long jump (7.59m), triple jump (14.59m), and running the third leg of the champion 4x100m relay (41.28).
 
Grinnell’s Brian Goodell was named MWC Outstanding Track Performer. Goodell won titles in the 3,000m steeplechase (9:27.87) and the 10,000m (31:38.42), while also finishing third in the 5,000m (15:20.46).
 
Illinois College’s Adam Hernandez was named MWC Newcomer of the Year. Hernandez won the 110m hurdles (15.24), finished second in the 400m hurdles (56.58), posted a fourth-place finish in the high jump (1.85m), and ran the third leg on the Blueboys’ third place 4x400m relay team.
 
On the women’s side, Ripon College tallied 149 points to claim its second consecutive team title. Monmouth College (123) narrowly edged out Grinnell College (122) by one point to take second and third, respectively. Cornell College (111) and Illinois College (107) rounded out the top five, followed by Beloit College and Lawrence University tied for sixth with 63 points, Knox College (36), and Lake Forest College (5). 
 
Monmouth’s Maddie Boley received the MWC Outstanding Field Performer honor after winning the discus (42.05m), hammer (49.25m), and shot put (13.01m).
 
Beloit’s Candis Damtse was named MWC Outstanding Track Performer. Damtse won the 200m (25.06) and 400m (56.65) while anchoring the Bucs’ champion 4x400m relay team (4:02.49) and the fourth place 4x100m relay (50.07).
 
Illinois College’s Deja Anderson picked up MWC Newcomer of the Year honors. Anderson anchored the champion 4x100m relay team, finished second in the long jump (5.54m), second in the 100m (12.31), and third in the 200m (26.08).
 
For the second year in a row, Ripon College won the MWC Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Coaching Staff of the Year award. The Red Hawks are led by head coach Bob Wood.
 
Each year, the Midwest Conference recognizes the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average competing in the respective men's and women's outdoor track & field championship. The recipients of the 2024 MWC Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Elite 20 awards were presented to Lawrence University sophomore Tristan Zook and Monmouth College junior Bethany Allen. This is Bethany’s second year in a row receiving the honor.
