APPLETON, Wisconsin – Monmouth College captured its program’s 32nd Midwest Conference (MWC) Men’s Outdoor Track & Field title on Saturday at George A. Whiting Field on the campus of Lawrence University. The Fighting Scots scored 135.5 points to top the field and earn their first championship crown since claiming the South Division title in 2021.
Defending champion Ripon College finished second with 131.5 points. Cornell College edged Illinois College for third place by a single point, finishing with 126 and 125 points, respectively. Grinnell College placed fifth with 93 points, followed by Lawrence University (57), Beloit College (49), Knox College (31), and Lake Forest College (30).
Monmouth closed out the two-day championship with one event win, taking first in the hammer throw (Shane Anderson – 55.61m).
Ripon claimed titles in the 400m (Seth Bunders – 48.05), triple jump (Dameco Walker – 14.38m), and 4x400m relay (3:21.78). Cornell College took top honors in the 5000m (Isaac van Westrienen – 14:22.21).
Illinois College earned three event victories: the 110m hurdles (Adam Hernandez – 15.11), 100m dash (Dylan Doss – 10.52), and 4x100m relay (41.78).
Grinnell College secured wins in the high jump (Jack Novelle – 1.94m) and the 3000m steeplechase (Luke Robinson – 9:41.40). Beloit College claimed two titles, winning the discus (Joshua Martinez Marte – 46.68m) and the 400m hurdles (Nathaniel Otis – 53.01).
Lake Forest College earned the final event win of the day in the 800m (Ollie Francis – 1:55.60).
At the conclusion of the meet, coaches selected the major award winners. Monmouth’s
Janius Taylor was named MWC Newcomer of the Year, and the
Fighting Scots’ coaching staff, led by head coach Brian Woodard, was honored as Coaching Staff of the Year. Cornell’s
Isaac van Westrienen was recognized as MWC Outstanding Men’s Track Performer, while Ripon’s
Dameco Walker was named MWC Outstanding Men’s Field Performer. Knox’s
Lance Miller received the Elite 20 Award, presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average competing in the championship.
