Ripon Leads After Day One of MWC Outdoor Track & Field Championships

JACKSONSVILLE, Illinois – The Ripon College men’s and women’s squads captured early standings leads on the opening day of the 2024 Midwest Conference (MWC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships. 
 
Through six scored events on the men’s side, the Red Hawks picked up 47 points and first place finishes in the long jump (Dameco Walker – 7.59m) and pole vault (4.60m).
 
In second place, Illinois College earned 42 points, followed by Grinnell College with 37 points. The Pioneers won a title in the 10,000m (Brian Goodell – 31:38.42).
 
Monmouth College and Cornell College round out the top-five with 37 and 35 points, respectively. The Fighting Scots won titles in the discus (Caleb Toberman – 48.36m) and hammer throw (Caleb Toberman – 55.02m), while the Rams claimed a first-place finish in the 1,500m (Fisher Isaacson – 3:52.59).
 
On the women’s side, Ripon tallied 54 points and championship crowns in the 1,500m (Jenny Cortes – 4:41.89), 10,000m (Alison Denamur – 37:41.32), and javelin (Bridget Finn – 34.51m).
In second place, Monmouth scored 51 points ahead of Cornell and Illinois College tied at third with 33 points, and Grinnell in fifth with 24 points.
 
The Fighting Scots won the pole vault (Miranda Hursey – 3.45m) and the shot put (13.01m), while the Rams picked up a title in the long jump (Natalie McAllister – 5.57m).
 
Action continues Saturday, May 11, at 10:30 a.m. with field events. The first race will kick off with the 4x100m relay at 12:15 p.m.
