[Day 1 Results]
DE PERE, Wis. – After one day at the 2012 Midwest Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships a familiar face sits atop the standings. Monmouth headlines the nine teams represented at the championships which are hosted by St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wis.
Monmouth claimed gold medals in five different events which leads all teams. Amanda Streeter was the only multiple champion on the day, winning the discus and hammer throw with her toss in the hammer throw setting a new MWC record. Missy Norville was the only other athlete to set a conference record as she went over 20 feet on the long jump.
On the men’s side Knox is runner-up with 30 points followed by Carroll (28) and Lawrence (23) in third and fourth place, respectively. St. Norbert is only one point away from fourth place with 22 points with Grinnell (21.5), Ripon (18), Beloit (11) and Illinois Col. (10.5) rounding out the field. Monmouth leads the men’s field with 70 points.
The Fighting Scots women scored 91.5 points with Carroll sitting in a distant second place with 48.5 points. Grinnell (33), Ripon (24.5) and St. Norbert (23.5) are within striking distance after one day of competition. Illinois Col. (20) and Beloit (20) are in a deadlock in sixth place while Lawrence (10) and Knox (2) round out the women’s field.
