BELOIT, Wis. – After one day at the 2013 Midwest Conference (MWC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships Monmouth once again paces the ten team field with the day one lead. The Fighting Scots are competing for their ninth straight sweep of the championships which are being hosted on the campus of Beloit College.
Monmouth and Carroll both claimed gold medals in three different events which leads all teams. Allison Devor (Monmouth) broke the only MWC record on the first day as she set the standard in the hammer throw.
On the men’s side Grinnell is runner-up with 40 points followed by St. Norbert (35) and Ripon (30) in third and fourth place, respectively. Illinois Col. is only five points away from fourth place with 25 points with Knox (17), Carroll (15), Lawrence (10), Beloit (4) and Cornell (3) rounding out the field. Monmouth leads the men’s field with 55 points.
The Fighting Scots women scored 94.5 points with Carroll sitting in a distant second place with 44 points. St. Norbert (28.5), Illinois Col. (28) and Grinnell (23) are within striking distance after one day of competition. Cornell (18) and Ripon (17) are a point apart for sixth place while Lawrence (14), Beloit (6), and Knox (0) round out the women’s field.
